Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) affects 10-16% of adult world wide population. Those with CKD has an increased risk for end stage renal disease (ESRD), CVD and death!!!
CKD is defined as either kidney damage, proteinuria, hematuria or structural abnormalities of the kidney, with or with out impaired GFR ( glomerular filtration rate), which persists for over 3 months.
Who should be scanned for CKD?
Patients with hypertension, DM, family history of CKD, older age etc
Improved staging strategies of CKD, improving awareness of CKD and clearer guidelines for appropriate nephrology referral once instituted, is expected to improve outcomes .
